The ADVANTAGE Knee Spacer is part of the treatment foreseen in a two-stage procedure performed in the event of permanent prosthesis infection. The ADVANTAGE Knee Spacer implant is intended for temporary use only (180 days or less). It allows basic joint mobility and releases antibiotic into the joint area to protect the implant from bacterial colonization. A second surgery will be required at a later date to remove the ADVANTAGE Knee Spacer and replace it with a permanent knee joint implant. The ADVANTAGE Knee Spacer consists of two individual implants (femoral and tibial) which, when joined, allow to better fit the anatomy of the patient. A REMEDY® Tibial Insert Wedge Component is also available in different sizes to enable the best possible patient solutions. Each ADVANTAGE Femoral Component (four sizes available) is matchable to each ADVANTAGE Tibial Component (three sizes available). Each ADVANTAGE Tibial Insert Wedge (three sizes available) is matchable only with its corresponding Tibial Component. 

In two stage Total hip replacement revision surgery, use of Bone cement spacer is necessary.

Moulding bone cement in proper ‘shape and size’ makes 2^nd stage of revision surgery easier and less time consuming.

 ‘Advantage bone cement spacer Moulds’ are available in 8 sizes [40 mm,43 mm,46 mm,49 mm,52 mm,55 mm,58 mm,60 mm].

 

1. Mix the low viscosity bone cement (as per the 'qty. required' mentioned on cover packing) and load it in the bone cement dispenser.2. Keep two K-wires (2.5 mm dia. & 10 cm long) ready to be used as 'reinforcement' in spacer.3. Hold the bone cement spacer mould in 'Advantage' multiutility vice.4. Slide the rubber sleeve to open the window on lateral side.5. Fill bone cement (loaded in the bone cement dispenser) in the spherical cavity (head portion) of the mould through this window and insert the 10 cm K-wire as reinforcement and close the window by sliding the rubber sleeve back to original position.6. Fill bone cement in the stem portion of the mould through the opening on superior/top end of the mould. Insert another 10 cm K-wire in the stem.7. After the mould is filled completely with bone cement, allow bone cement to set and harden.8. After Bone cement is hard, split open the spacer mould with surgical knife.9. Bone cement spacer will be ready for use.
